About Me

My name is Kim Sydow Campbell or “Dr. Kim” to my students. I’ve focused on empowering people by discovering and sharing the truth about communication at work for 35+ years.

I’m proud that several international organizations have recognized my efforts.

The Society for Technical Communication recognized me with the Jay R. Gould Award for Excellence in Teaching
IEEE recognized me with both the Alfred N. Goldsmith Award for Outstanding Contributions to Engineering Communication and the Emily K. Schlesinger Award for Service as the Editor-in-chief of the Transactions on Professional Communication
The Association for Business Communication recognized me with the Kitty O. Locker Outstanding Researcher Award

I earned my PhD in Rhetoric, Composition and Linguistics from Louisiana State University in 1990, completing a dissertation about professional writing. I’m the author of several books as well as more than forty refereed papers and book chapters on business and technical communication.

I’m currently a professor in the Technical Communication Department at the University of North Texas. I’ve been a faculty member in Culverhouse College of Business at the University of Alabama, the School of Logistics at the Air Force Institute of Technology, and the English Department at Auburn University.
